I am having difficulty running the website http://www.bsahandbook.org/.
I am using IE8 and XP Pro on one laptop and IE8 and Vista 64bit on
another laptop. When I surf to this website I get the yellow shield
with a black exclamation point inside it in the lower left os the
window and the words "with errors on the page". If I click this shield
icon it opens a dialog box that says 'swfobject' is undefined code:
0, Line: 99, Char 1. The webpage loads but does not work correctly. I
have been searching the net for anything that can help me with
resolving this issue. I have downloaded and configured the latest Java
files and adobe flashplayer files. I am not savy with scripting but
it looks to me like there is a scripting error at line 99 that wants
the flashplayer defined??? A layman's interpretation. I would really
like to know if there is something I could do to correct this. I
greatly appreciate any and all feedback to this post. :-)

Generally speaking, an swfobject is undefined message means the
swfobject JavaScript file could not be found. Check that the file does
actually exist where you are trying to load it from.

Thanks for your reply. I have the swfobject in the Internet Explorer
folder and I am still getting the 'swfobject' is undefined error. I am
not sure where it should be. I put it there since I am using IE8 to
open the web address.

I think that same error can also happen if you accidentally include two
copies of swfobject, or if you include swfobject.js that has v1.5 syntax,
but are trying to make v2.x calls against it (the API completely changed).
You should open up your page in a browser, then inspect the document <HEAD>
to see what (if any) copies of swfobject are being loaded. Then, look in the
comments of the swfobject.js file that was loaded in the browser and make
sure it's v2.2.

Again, thanks for reply. I am not familiar enough with java and scripting to be able to do what you suggested. I do have the v2.x version as I downloaded it this morning. I am not sure about more than one copy?  I have alot of time wrapped in this already and have not gotten very far with correcting this issue.

Yes,

Your SWFobject javascript is most likely in the wrong place.  That is to say you should keep the .js file in the main website folder - the same folder as the index.html file that surfers reach when they type your URL into a browser.

Good luck,

And yes!  With multiple swf's, you must make certain that each player has a unique ID AND is set up properly in the head of your html document.
